Matt started in rallying in 1999 as a rally volunteer, and ran as a competitor in many TSD events. His first performance rally was in 2001 as a codriver at Rallye Baie des Chaleurs. He began competing in performance rallies as a driver in 2005 after taking a few years off while going to university. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented driver. And in 2006 he won the Ontario Novice drivers championship and the Ontario Production 2 championship.
He is best known for driving a production class Toyota Paseo in a completely flat out style, and often finishes ahead of some far more powerful 4wd competition. For this reason, many fans love watching him race, and many photographers have learned the hard way to never put your camera down until after he’s gone by, because he always puts on a good show.
