La Malbaie (Quebec), May 23, 2020.- The 2020 edition of the Rallye de Charlevoix will take place this year from October 23 to 25, as initially scheduled. The event is part of the North American Rally Cup, the Canadian Rally Championship, the Eastern Canadian Rally Championship and the Quebec Rally Championship.
Recently, the organizers of two other performance rally events held in Quebec, the Rallye International Baie-des-Chaleurs (canceled) and the Rallye Défi (demoted to regional status only), announced that they were forced to withdraw their presence in the 2020 CRC schedule due to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. The Rallye de Charlevoix organizing committee wishes to offer its support to these two organizations in this difficult decision they had to make.
The Rallye de Charlevoix will take place in 2020, but it will be adapted to the circumstances and the reality that will prevail this fall. Specific measures to welcome competitors, volunteers, officials and the media are already under consideration. Spectators presence will be assessed at a later date, based on government restrictions that may remain in effect in October.
The format of the event will also be reduced to keep competitor costs as low as possible. “It’s not a problem to present the competition as a one-day event, or slightly more, without affecting the sporting value of our event” said Samuel Tremblay, the coordinator. He also specifies: “the preparation work continues! We thank the sponsors, municipalities and everyone involved in our event. We can also guarantee that different options are being evaluated to offer all participants a great Rallye de Charlevoix 2020 to allow them to forget, at least for a weekend, the difficult times we are experiencing currently”.
To make easy the presence of competitors who have been deprived of rally competition, sometimes for more than eight months, is one of the main goals of our organization of this 2020 edition. The event will be the third round of a Canadian Rally Championship now reduced to six events. Ensuring that all volunteers will be able to participate at the event in the best possible sanitary conditions is also a priority on which the organization of the Rallye de Charlevoix is currently working.
